Protection of Seawater Liftpump Caissons
Severe galvanic corrosion of seawater liftpumps is a problem for many years, corrosion rates higher than 10 mm/year have been recorded.
Within several years, this can lead to enormous cost for repair, especially for FPSO's where caisson leakages only can be repaired at high cost.
Corrodium developed an easy but very effective way to protect the caisson over the full length.
Sacrificial anodes are used where two (patents pending) methods are used to assure the best protection potentials:
1) The proper position of the anode by hanging it in the caisson without touching the pump.
2) Control of the protection potential using a potential control booster unit. The anodes themselves function as power supply for the printboard.
Bracelet anodes: Aluminium sacrificial anodes. Leaflet caisson protection
Technical paper caisson protection (5 MB).

Corrosion monitoring with Corrtran
Instrument engineers know Pepperl and Fuchs as leading company in industrial and process automation.
Less known is that P+F developes specialized sensors, such as corrosion monitoring instrumentation.
All instrumentation is ATEX certified.
After many years development and testing by P+F and several institutes and scientists (worldwide), the Corrtran for electrochemical corrosion monitoring was developed.
This technology enables to measure both uniform corrosion as localized corrosion (e.g. pitting in stainless steel).
This opens many new application.
Besides the existing measuring of CO2 corrosion in wet gas, for example microbiological corrosion in stainless steel water piping can be detected.
Leading to very interesting cost saving on behalf of inspection and maintanance.
Please contact us for finding cost savings on behalf of inspection and maintenance for your company.
